Which format should I choose?

JPG suits photos without transparency. PNG keeps transparency without adding lossy compression. WebP is useful for web images and supports transparency. WebP output requires a browser with a WebP encoder.

Does conversion make the file smaller?

Not always. The encoded file can be larger, especially when converting a photo to PNG. Check the actual size before downloading.
